re:zero is one of those isekai animes where the mc named subaru gets yeeted into another world and just dies over and over again resetting back to a checkpoint every time while keeping all his memories, which is honestly one of the coolest concepts ive seen for the genre. its made by studio white fox based off the light novels by tappei nagatsuki and the first season came out in 2016, it kinda changed the whole isekai genre since most of them just have the mc get op for no reason but here you actually feel subaru suffer for it lol
Mushoku Tensei
mushoku tensei follows this 34 year old jobless dude who gets hit by a car (or bus depending who you ask) and wakes up as a baby named rudeus in a new fantasy world but still remembers everything from his past life. animated by studio bind based off the light novels by rifujin na magonote it premiered back in january 2021, and a lot of people say this is one of the shows that basically kicked off the whole isekai hype train again with how good the animation and world building is
Reacher
reacher is based off the jack reacher novels by lee child and it follows this massive dude played by alan ritchson whos an ex military police officer that just wanders around the country with nothing on him and somehow ends up in the middle of a conspiracy every single time lol. season 1 is based on the first book killing floor and it came out on amazon prime back in february 2022, its gotten a few more seasons since then each one based on a different book from the series
Invincible
invincible is this adult animated superhero show on amazon based off the image comics by robert kirkman, cory walker and ryan ottley, it follows mark grayson whos just some normal teenager except his dad happens to be the strongest superhero on the planet and things get crazy once mark starts getting powers of his own. it came out back in march 2021 and its way more violent and brutal then youd expect just from looking at the art style
Fallout
fallout is the live action show on amazon based off the video game series by bethesda, it follows lucy whos a vault dweller that leaves her underground vault to go explore the wasteland and ofc runs into all the classic fallout stuff like ghouls, raiders and the brotherhood of steel. it came out in april 2024 and honestly its one of the few video game adaptations that actually turned out good
Jujutsu Kaisen
jjk is a shonen anime by studio mappa based off the manga by gege akutami, it follows yuji itadori a highschooler who swallows a cursed finger belonging to sukuna, a super strong curse, and ends up having to carry him around inside his body while training to become a strong enough sorcerer to eat the rest of the fingers and get rid of sukuna for good. it came out back in october 2020 and blew up into one of the biggest shonen of its time
The Mentalist
the mentalist is an old cbs crime show that ran from 2008 to 2015 starring simon baker as patrick jane, a guy who used to fake being a psychic and now works with the california bureau of investigation solving cases using cold reading and just being really observant instead of actual psychic powers. theres also a big storyline throughout the whole show about jane trying to find red john, the serial killer that killed his wife and daughter, which ties into basically everything
Frieren: Beyond Journey's End
frieren beyond journeys end is an anime by studio madhouse based off the manga by kanehito yamada and tsukasa abe, it follows frieren whos an elf mage that was part of the group that beat the demon king and now has to deal with the fact that as an elf shes gonna outlive literally everyone she cares about. it premiered in september 2023 and ended up winning a bunch of anime of the year awards, its genuinely one of the best anime ive seen in a while
Made in Abyss
made in abyss is an anime by kinema citrus based on the manga by akihito tsukushi, it follows riko, a young girl exploring this massive mysterious hole in the ground called the abyss looking for her mom, alongside reg whos a robot boy she finds at the bottom of it. it came out back in july 2017 and it looks like a cute adventure show at first until it very much isnt lol
